For over two decades, and across multiple presidential administrations, Groundwork USA and our local affiliates have worked hand-in-hand with community members in urban neighborhoods across the country to undo the legacy of environmental injustice and create healthy, green, and thriving communities for all.
Our work is driven by the belief that meaningful and lasting change can only happen through cross-sector, intergenerational partnerships committed to addressing priorities elevated by community residents. While our projects and priorities have evolved over the decades, the hopes and aspirations that drive our work have remained constant—everyone wants to live in a community that is green, healthy, just, and resilient.
Throughout the years, we have seen what is possible by investing in local action: neglected land transformed into vibrant public spaces, new job opportunities for young people, reduced flooding, cleaner air and water, and cooler neighborhoods. We’ve made significant strides in our efforts to change places, change lives, and change systems and our dedication to driving meaningful change where it matters most remains unwavering.
Building a greener, safer, and more just future has always been the work of generations—and it will take each of us, with our ideas, energy, and dedication, to keep that momentum going in the coming years and push back against changes that undermine our shared values.
All of us at Groundwork USA thank you for the work you do – and will continue to do – to champion urgently needed changes and create a future where every community thrives.
