A Closer Look at Stormwater Management Parks

Stormwater parks and green infrastructure help manage water by slowing it down, soaking it up, and turning flood risks into community resources. These spaces can look like rain gardens, bioswales, or even full parks designed to hold water and offer places to gather. Across the Groundwork Network, teams are transforming underused land into green spaces that fight flooding, restore ecosystems, and give neighbors a place to connect.

Groundwork New Orleans – Vision 2 Reality Stormwater Park

Groundwork New Orleans teamed up with residents and other community based organizations to create the Vision 2 Reality Stormwater Management Park—using rain gardens, bioswales, trees, solar powered benches and permeable pathways to manage stormwater, reduce flooding and extreme heat and provide a safe space for residents to enjoy.

Project Goal: Reduce flooding and heat, and increase green space
Project Size: Features a 200 foot bioswale, trees, permeable pavement and shade structures

Annual Benefits:

  • 305,000 gallons of stormwater absorbed
  • 70 pounds of air pollution removed
  • $76,000+ in total annual benefits (bioswales, trees, pavement combined)
  • ROI: $5.62 per $1 invested
