Richmond VA joins Groundwork

Groundwork Richmond, Virginia (GWRVA) is the newest Trust to join the Groundwork network. The GWRVA Steering Committee believes this is the perfect time for launchig a Trust locally, with the City of Richmond embracing cycling and walking for transportation and promoting new healthy lifestyles. Richmond also has several corridors and abandoned railways that the Steering Committee would like to see repurposed and revitalized into greenways…Trails are one of the citizens’ most requested amenities in parks and the the Committee feels that the Groundwork program will be an asset to opening these unused and underutilized areas to the public, and that the addition of greenways will enable safer transportation for many that are currently unavailable. The ribbon-cutting depicted in the photo (top left), with the Mayor Dwight Jones, local Councilwoman Ellen Robertson and Steering Committee member Charles Price, is of the Cannon Creek Greenway – the success of which formed part of the inspiration for the application for a new Groundwork Trust in Richmond VA.
